Union Structure
The Union is run by five full time, paid and elected officers and many part time unpaid positions. All officers are equal, regardless of whether they are paid or not. These officers ensure that students are represented at University Committees (where lots of decisions that affect you as a student are made). The officers provide an authentic student voice and ensure that all decisions the University makes take into account the impact and positive benefits to students.
At course level the Union also facilitates the running of the Course Representatives' system . Course Reps represent their courses and ensure that the University responds to the needs of students. They also encourage changes at a course level to ensure students get the quality of education they deserve.
Furthermore, the officers run student specific campaigns, these range from local internal University issues, such as successfully campaigning for 24 hour library access to national ones such as campaigning for a fairer student funding system. Any student can make suggestions on campaigns and if you have some ideas contact the President

All officers are elected at either a general election or by-election each year. This is your chance to choose the people you think best reflect your needs. Any student who is enrolled on a University of Brighton course can stand for election. The main Union General Election is run in the second term and the Union by- election is run in the first term.
