Hi, my name is Lara Ope-Ewe and I am currently a Third year Pharmacy Student. I am running for the position of Brighton Site entertainment chair. I believe that as students we should have a major impact on the decision makings that goes within our student union. They claim that our Universities days are meant to be one of the best days of our lives so wouldn’t you like to know that you had a hand in contributing to those experiences.
I want to be your site entertainment Chair representative because I will work to the best of my ability to see that your voices are communicated effectively to the Union. I feel there is currently no effective platform that allows students to communicate concisely with the Union as it stands. The student forums and meetings although available do not allow for students to have a major hand in decision making of the students Union event as much as they would like. A lot of students don’t actually know that they can have a vocal position in what occurs within the student union.
The student Union exists to provide Students with the opportunity to have a say in the running of their University both academically, financially and socially. I want to be more involved in the social aspect of the union by bridging the gap between the Union and the students thus allowing students to effectively voice their opinion. I also aim to make students more aware of the role they can have within the Student Union in the production of events and entertainment on site. I want to improve the current methods of communication e.g forums by making them easily accessible to students, and promoting that these facilities are available. I aim to have more direct communication with societies in acknowledging events or entertainment that would enhance their diverse and cultural background within the University of Brighton. I believe these are things that I can attain as your site entertainment chair representative. I am passionate that these changes take place to make our student union is a true reflection of students at the University of Brighton.
As a student myself I feel that the events so far at the university of Brighton is not representative of the University as a whole and I can be the voice of those that are not heard.
