My name is Rachael Kamara I am currently studying a Fda in broadcast Media at UCH.
Some of you may know me from Exposure on burst radio that is on air live Tuesdays 5-7pm. I have a huge passion for live music, art and theatre which has led me to run in the elections for entertainments chair at UCH starting Sep 2010.
I have lived in Hastings for 8 years and know and love the area. Since moving here I have been involved with many local events and I am on good terms with many of the promoters, publicans, restaurant owners and local support and activity groups. I have a good knowledge of the local annual events, and I am keen to show the students of UCH and other campuses what Hastings has to offer.
Living in Hastings has provided me with many opportunities. Previously I worked for a local arts and entertainment magazine conducting band reviews, taking photos and providing a gig list for each monthly issue. I have organized live music events on the pier and at what used to be the marina Pavilion no known as AZUR.
I worked at Pissarro’s booking and co-ordinating the events, music and hotel bookings for over 3 years before starting at UCH.
Currently I am organizing an event with students and other people local to Hastings in mind for the annual Oxjam festival at The Brass Monkey opposite UCH. I know the proprietors well and also have good contacts within the music scene locally and further afield. Which is helping to put the event together to raise money for Oxfam.
My knowledge of the area will allow me to organize events with not only what students want in mind but also their safety. Ensuring the venues and activities planned are always safe and properly staffed.
If elected with the support of my contacts, local event organizers, the SU and through Burst Radio I will provide an exciting , regular and consistent time table of events for UCH students broadening there knowledge and enjoyment of Hastings throughout their studies.
Great days and nights out, great shows, student promotions and student concessions with local pubs, clubs and businesses. As well as looking to organise nights out in Brighton and surrounding areas with the aim of not just entertaining but also making the students aware that the south coast is a great place to live and study, with plenty of history, and opportunity.
