Vote Lizzie for YOUR entertainments chair @ UCH.
Hey there, I am Lizzie Rafati, and I am a third year Broadcast Media student running for the position of entertainments chair for UCH.
I think voting for me would be the best thing you do today, simply because I sincerely care about the future development and improvement of the entertainments sector at Uch. I am brimming with ideas and energy, but also eager to hear and try and achieve your hopes and plans for entertainment at university.
I believe that representing the student body is all about getting YOUR voices heard, which brings me to my funky tagline that I hope will be ringing merrily in your ears when you sit down to vote (for me!!) “I’ll be whatever you want me to be”… For me, this position is not about adding something to my CV or something to gloat about or have a free ego/power trip upon….. I am passionate about communicating with students; finding out what you want in your student union…..be it a juke box in the canteen, a new society or a paint-balling excursion….I want to be the person you approach with your ideas and the person that tries to make it happen!
I think UCH has the potential for a great entertainments sector….I want to make exciting things happen. Current ideas I have range from a live music license for the canteen so that student bands can play at lunchtime etc, the formation of specific societies such as a Spanish speaking society or a gig-going society. I feel at the moment there is little opportunity for students to integrate with those from different courses at the university. By improving the ents sector, I hope to cultivate good social relations between the different faculties.
On a wider spectrum, I also envisage creating better ties with our partner campuses at Brighton and Eastbourne….with the view of perhaps sharing ents facilities/trips/events, after all, we all go to ‘the University of Brighton’…why not combine forces to create something awesome?!
I have experience in representing students as I was the chairperson of student reps at my college and the vice president of the band society at my last university. I have skills in planning large scale social and fundraising events as well as residential trips and on a smaller scale, bar crawls and student parties. An avid musician, I am also the front woman and singer-songwriter of my own band. Team work is my forte. I believe I have great communication skills and will talk to anyone and everyone and listen to everything people have to say. I am very interested in creating a team of students to aid me with collecting views of fellow students, an ‘ents team’ if you will! I believe there is magic in numbers. The more people that get involved, the more people will benefit.
Speaking of getting involved, I would like to use student email, facebook groups, student radio and online polls to gauge interest for various events so that every student may have a say in what is going on. Additionally, informal discussion groups in the canteen would be a great idea for generating event plans and aspects for ents improvement.
When supporting you, the student body, I am fully aware that I will be dealing with a diverse cross-section of the community. My skills of diplomacy and my considerate nature should help me here.
If elected for entertainments chair at UCH, I have great hopes and aspirations for the coming year and hope to create building blocks upon which we can expand as the university grows and develops in years to come. University is an exciting time for students with endless opportunities to meet and socialise with new people (I am so intoxicated with the uni experience, I have completed one degree and come back for a second helping!)
