► AMSAR Susie Cox

Susie Cox

Hi. I am a Media Studies student in my second year and I am running for the position of Arts & Media School Academic Representative. I have been a course rep for Media Studies since I began University and have enjoyed the tasks and responsibilities that have come with this position. I am approachable, creative and have the confidence to make myself heard; which makes me perfect for this position.

Formerly part of the CMIS School, the media courses at Brighton have now been recognised in their own right and are part of the more appropriate and brand new Arts & Media School. This brings together likeminded students and I want to get to know these students. I want to make sure that every single Arts & Media student knows that there is someone who will listen to their issue, however big or small, and not only listen, but take it seriously and ensure that something is done about it.

But how will I do this? As a media student I know how I can utilise the internet to communicate better with students. Many students use Facebook on a regular basis and this is an easy, casual way to communicate. I will set up an Arts & Media Group so that problems can be discussed and shared, not just with me but also with peers. I will also use email to directly speak to every student. However, whatever way students communicate with me, I will always make sure that I actively research and act upon their problem by working closely with the Student Union and Course Leaders. Additionally, I will always give feedback on the outcome and inform students of the changes that occur.

I will be representing a lot of courses, but it is the individual opinions that matter. I understand the pressures, doubts and problems that can come with studying at University and I am eager to be a resource to help improve my fellow student’s University experience.

So all you have to do now is vote Cox to be given the voice you need.
