The Students' Union, being the democratic and bureaucratic beast that it is relies on the committee decision-making process to pass policy and operate both within the law and the Union’s own Constitution, Schedules and policies.

As such there a significant number of committees and meetings that encompass the whole range of activities and services that the Union provides.

Every year we produce a meeting calendar, this details all the committees of the Union (their times, dates and locations) and the University committees that have Union officers and staff in attendance.

All Union members (i.e. normal student members) are entitled to attend Union Committee meetings as observers and with the permission of the chair may also be given speaking rights. Please contact the secretary of the committee in advance to check the date, time and location are still correct and inform him/her that you wish to attend.

The Union represents student interest at a number of University committees these are also included on the meeting schedule. Terms of reference for University committees are available on request from site offices.

The main policy setting committee of the Union

Audit and Finance Committees
Receives the management accounts, requests for money to purchase non-budgeted items and ensures that the Union is meeting its financial targets

Course Representative Development Committee
Looks at issues relating to the Course Rep system within the University

Entertainments Committee
Receives proposals for entertainments events during the year

Ethcial and Environmental Committee
Meets to discuss matters relating to ethical and environmental concerns within the Union and University community

Societies Federation Steering Committee
Deals with the activities relating to societies and their activities including bids for funds

Sports Federation Steering Committee
Deals with the activities relating to sports clubs and their activities including bids for funds

Student Development Committee
Oversees student officer and rep training and student developmental and volunteering opportunities

Student Wellbeing and Campaigns Committee
Looks at issues affecting students such as health related matters and associated awareness campaigns
