Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The Annual General Meeting (AGM)

What is an AGM

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is the sovereign body of the Students’ Union. This means that it is the highest decision making body of the Union. At this meeting you will get to meet the new executive team for the academic year, receive reports and audited accounts from the previous year and ratify the forthcoming year’s budget and affiliations.

How the AGM Works

The AGM invites all students to submit motions, generate support, attend the AGM, get up and debate an issue, and vote.
The AGM requires 400 students to attend to achieve quorum (quorum is the minimum number of people who must be present to pass a law or make a judgment) we need it to be quorate in order to pass constitutional motions, plus the more students that get involved the better.

There are formal procedures that keep the meeting under control, these will be explained by the Union’s Steering Committee on the day,  the meeting is chaired by the Chair and Deputy Chair of Student Council. If you have any questions about formal motions then please get in contact with Sam Mallender, SU President bsup@brighton.ac.uk
