Bright(on) Futures – your student alumni association
The Brighton Graduate Association is here for all our alumni (former students) whether they graduated last year or fifty years ago, but did you know we are also here for you, as students? As a current student, you can make use of our graduate mentors or could even offer your voluntary assistance to the association so that we can promote the University of Brighton and our successful graduates worldwide. There are a number of opportunities for you to be involved as current students:
Do you need someone to talk to?
The Brighton Graduate Association has a network of over 50,000 graduates worldwide, many of whom have volunteered to assist current students by becoming mentors and offering placement opportunities.
As a University of Brighton student, if you would like to contact a graduate to discuss particular career paths or just gather some advice about being at university, contact us at the Brighton Graduate Association. We will put you in touch with our graduate mentors and you can pick their brains on their wealth of knowledge and experience. Email us at alumni@brighton.ac.uk if you would like to be put in touch.
Volunteer with the BGA
We are always looking for student volunteers within the Development and Alumni Office. If you are interested in events, fundraising, marketing or relationship management as future careers, or would just like to obtain some hands on experiences in a friendly, lively office, then this may be for you. We are able to place students for anything from a couple of weeks, to a term or even a full year. Volunteering looks great on your CV and is also a brilliant way of gaining practical experience and learning new skills. Do get in touch if you think this may be for you. We also have volunteer opportunities at various reunions and events which usually take place on evenings and weekends and allow you the chance to meet alumni and friends.
Let your creative juices flow
We would like to encourage students to write for our alumni and friends magazine, The Brighton Effect, which is published annually and also to have input in our other communications. Alumni are keen to know what it’s like to be a student today and to be kept informed with what is happening at the University and more widely in Brighton and Eastbourne. If you would like to be one of our student writers, or think you have an interesting article which you would like to submit for consideration, please get in contact. We cover a wide range of topics and themes.
Looking into your futures
Alumni are always keen to come back to campus and meet current students to offer professional and more general advice. It may be possible to arrange events whereby current students invite alumni back for a discussion group on a particular topic or perhaps even to further develop skills such as networking, etiquette, public speaking – the possibilities are endless. To be successful, these events will need enthusiastic and dedicated organisation and therefore we will need student volunteers to help make these ideas work.
If you would like to get involved in any of these activities or would like to be put in contact with a graduate in your subject area, please email us at alumni@brighton.ac.uk
